THE LIFE-CHANGING IMPACT OF THE GOSPEL Colossians
1:1-8 Here the idea is that the gospel once it is received begins to transform a person from within. That transformation begins to reveal itself in a changed life that is evident to others. That change is the result of the Spirit of God bringing understanding of God’s Word. |

PRAYING FOR A WORTHY WALK Colossians
1:9-12 Here the idea is praying for knowledge that results in living out God’s will. The reason is so that we live in such a way that our lives can be characterized as a worthy walk—one that is pleasing to God. |

DELIVERED BY REDEMPTION Colossians
1:13-18 Here the idea is that only in Jesus Christ can we ever hope to have an eternal inheritance. He alone qualifies to deliver us into the Kingdom of God. There is absolutely no one else including ourselves qualified to deliver us. |

RECONCILED THROUGH BLOOD Colossians
1:19-23 Here the idea is that only in Jesus Christ death can anyone be reconciled to God. We are only blameless and beyond reproach before God because of the death of Jesus Christ. The essence of the gospel is proclaiming reconciliation through the blood of Christ. |

COMPONENTS OF A FIRM FAITH Colossians
2:1-5 Here the idea is that while it is difficult to bring people to spiritual maturity doing so involves many things like encouragement, love, and assurance. Striving to have a firm faith will require discipline and commitment to these things. |

DON’T DEVIATE FROM CHRIST Colossians
2:6-12 Here the idea is to avoid the danger of deception from teaching that is not according to Jesus but made up ideas of men. Staying focused on who Jesus is and what He has done for us according to the apostles is essential to avoid deception. |

SET FREE BEWARE OF BEING TAKEN CAPTIVE Colossians
2:13-19 Here the idea is not accepting false teaching that replaces the work of Christ with man-made regulations. Jesus has set us free from sin and reconciled us to God. We are to firmly live within the realm of that reality. |

THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY Mark 11:1-11 Here the idea is that of Jesus involvement in what God was doing as He rode into Jerusalem as the prophet Zechariah had predicted as the delivering Messiah. It is our responsibility to participate in what it is God is doing as we study that in Scripture. For Jesus it meant fulfilling the Old Testament prophecies. Today that means following Christ’s commands. |

EASTER SUNDAY FAITH IN THE EVIDENCE OF AN EMPTY TOMB John 20:1-10 Here the idea is that our faith is not in faith but in the evidence of a resurrected Christ. That evidence was displayed on Easter Sunday morning when Mary, Peter, and John all saw it firsthand. What they saw was shocking for Mary, then puzzling for Peter, and finally understanding for John who perceived the truth behind the evidence—namely, that Jesus was resurrected! |

YOU CAN’T GET THERE FROM HERE Colossians
2:20-23 Here the idea is that simply denying the body its desires cannot produce a vital spiritual life. Worldly or legalistic rules of physical self-denial no matter how wise will not nourish the spiritual life or the work of the Spirit within us. Neglecting the body has no value restraining the sensual indulgence of the flesh. Instead, we have died with Christ, which curtails the flesh. |

SET YOUR HEART ON HEAVENLY THINGS Colossians
3:1-4 Here the idea is that a believer’s life on earth is to be dominated by living his life from an eternal viewpoint. Our hearts, our minds, and our decisions ought to be governed by a heavenly perspective that takes into account God’s heart and will in His Word. |

PUT YOUR PAST SINFUL WAYS TO DEATH Colossians
3:5-11 Here the idea is that now being in Christ my sinful past and its sin must be set aside. Don’t go back there. All of that only springs from our fleshly earthly natures. We have a new person to put on now that we are in Christ that gives us a brand new identity no longer associated with our past. |

PUT ON THE VIRTUES OF A NEW LIFE IN CHRIST
Colossians
3:12-17 The idea here is that since believers have new lives in Christ, we are obligated to clothe ourselves in the attitudes and actions of that new life. The new life we put on is one in which the Word of Christ richly dwells in us resulting in transformation, praise, and gratitude. |

LIVING OUT OUR NEW LIFE AT HOME AND AT
WORK Colossians
3:18-4:1 Here the idea is that the new life we have in Christ with all of its virtues must flow into our closest relationships in such a way that they are transformed. We now have obligations to those closest to us at home and work that will demonstrate our new identity in our relationships. |

HOW TO PRAY AND WHAT TO SAY Colossians
4:2-6 Here the idea is that our new life in Christ should produce a mature prayer life that includes persisting, being watchful, and making requests of God. When speaking to others it should also be evident that we know what and why we believe and can provides answers to any who ask us. |

4:7-18 Here the idea is that the church is people who are believers in Jesus Christ and networked together for the greater spiritual good of one another loving one another and serving each other. That includes giving encouragement, receiving instruction, praying for one another, embracing each other concerns, and fulfilling our ministry to one another. |
